We give a brief overview of aspects of the required documents that must have the owners of horses, for holding, change of ownership, transportation, competition etc. We intend to concisely the minimum information necessary to maintain the necessary documentation under applicable law.

Microchip

Individual identification system mandatory in Spain. According to Royal Decree 1133/2002 is mandatory in all Spanish territory to have identified and microchipped all horses , without exception, regardless of their race or where they are kept or bred.

How to get a microchip?
The microchip implantation must be performed by a veterinarian of free exercise, Veterinary Collaborating registered in the corresponding Autonomous Community, in the case of crossed horses or those breeds that have no record book in Spain and in the case of horses pure breed must be a veterinarian designated by the various associations.
To identify and microchiping a horse, it is imperative that the establishment where the horse resides owns  REGA code.
